George Thornley Appeal
Saw this on Wsf forum Many of you will have read the story of George Thornley, the 68 year old man who was almost killed and is currently in a serious condition in hospital, after disturbing someone trying to steal his fishing tackle.
Read the story here:
http://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/bl...ted.4765904.jp
and on this thread:
http://www.worldseafishing.com/forum...d.php?t=148174
Several members have asked me by PM, and others on the thread, if we can organise an appeal for him.
I know times are hard for most of us at the moment but lets see what we can do for him.
I am happy to accept Paypal donations to cascars@btconnect.com and cheques to my home address which I will provide by PM to anyone wanting it.
If you have an item or service you can provide that can be auctioned to raise funds then I can help with this too. Just let me know how you think you can help and I will do what I can.
I will start the ball rolling with a trip for two people on my boat Sea Mistress that can be taken at a mutually convenient time during 2009. This will be from Newhaven on the South Coast and depending on the time of year could be wrecking, bream fishing, inshore bassing or there may be something you wish to target.
Previous auctioned trips on Sea Mistress have raised between £75 and £150 so please bid a worthwhile amount.
As items are offered for auction I will add them to this post below. I will also list any donations received and a running total. When sending payment by whatever means please give your WSF name. If you do not want your details disclosed then please let me know and I will mark it as anonymous.
Lets get started and see how much we can raise for this fellow angler.
Having read this discusting and tragic report we have decided to hold a meet and eat on the east coast all money raised to go to George to help replace his lost tackle and show that the fishing community is a close one and look after their own the event if succesfull will take place on one of the following dates at Huttoft
sat 10th jan hw 17.25 - 6.5m
sat 24th jan hw 17.16 - 6.0m
sat 7th feb hw 16.21 - 6.0m
sat 21st feb hw 16.08 - 5.5m
please let me know if you are available and wich dates you would prefer majority will rule ticket will be £5 each

might be worth a mention on the east coast forum wsf, i'm sure there will be quite a bit of interest from the lads that fish that area.

gr8 news lads the amount of anglers pledged to attend has reached 30
and i am expecting a lot more before the event please tell all you meet about it as not every angler has a computer.
I will be giving a reel and a few other bits of tackle towards raffle or prizes if anyone else is going to bring prizes please let me know.
i will also bring my stoves to to make bacon sausage & beefburger cobs
to give away for a small £1 donation to the cause any other ideas would be most welcome (Steve)

Re: George Thornley Appeal
We have been asked for more details of the venue and how to get there hope this helps if you google in (huttoft, alford, lincolnshire
NG13) it will take you to sea lane carry on up the lane untill you get to a staggered junction go straight on to the beach,we will be fishing to the right of the little hut.
with regards the venue you'll be fishing into clean sand which is very mobile therefor any features/holes can change from tide to tide, best to have a look at low water on the day.
good size whiting and flatties are the main stay, there's been a few cod starting to show but are a bit patchy at the min.
yellow tails, blow lug and frozen black are the usual baits and can be tipped with squid or mackerel, rag worm tipped with a small piece of mackerel will also work, 50yrd - 80yrd out will put you into fish however a bait at distance can also pay off.
the only tackle shop close by is is fishing 4 u at ingoldmells 01754874950
