leftover bait Empty leftover bait

Was going to go down the river yesterday with bait left over from sat but have been told there's not much about. so opted for a quick flyer down to the island as im on 2-10.

Got up silly o'clock again (03.30) and headed to cable bay the idea was fish a couple of hour's in the dark see if there were any huss around and then if there's any ray's still hanging about first light.

Big mistake doggie's again one after each other.

then first light.

put on a float and got a few pollock. (camera's playing up excuse the pic's)

And a few fresh maccie for bait. set up the two big rod's with fresh maccie and all i got on then was load's of small dab's.

It was very slow from here on so i put some feather's on the small rod to see if i could get some more maccie for the freezer.

Loaded with small hokkie's i cast into the bay at first slowly dragging the hokkie's along the bottom then when it came close to shore i lifted it over the kelp to avoid the snag's. the second cast i noticed a small bite when dragging on the bottom. pulled in and a small grey gurnard was on done this six time's and landing six one after another but all vey small which i thought very strange.

If we get the right winds mate you cant fail at Ulrome
next to Skipsea right out from the metal steps
short cast i was fishing dab rigs with lug tipped
with squid small baits me and my mate were getting three at a time up to 4 lbs a lot of undersized fish mind you
but we both took 4 fish over 1 1/2 lbs for the pot
dident have any spinning gear with us at the time
but i will take some this time never had one spinning
for them cant wait to try it
