The DAA

Post by claire_s_p on Fri Oct 15, 2010 3:38 am

In the Beginning:
The original idea for forming the Disabled Angling Association known as the DAA came from Richard Stringer and Denise Reynolds from the Kent DAA who approached Nick Rowe the founder of Reels on Wheels and chatted about his idea and to find out if Nick was interested in forming it with them.

Over a period of a few weeks, hours were spent on the phone talking to each other and to a few other organisations to see how they felt about the idea.

Everybody who was spoken to liked the idea, so Nick and Richard got their heads together and started forming the DAA.

Below are the main body of the organisation BUT there will be a committee made up of people from other organisations, clubs and fisheries and it is that committee who decide who needs help and what needs doing, we feel that this way the DAA is not run or controlled by one person or a very select few.

Aims of the DAA:

•To unite clubs, associations and individual anglers who may feel that they are not given a voice within angling, whether disabled or able bodied.

•To inform and assist the whole of the angling industry to understand the needs and requirements of the disabled angler, including not just fisheries but also tackle shops, clubs and even tackle manufacturers.

•To give advice to anyone who needs it regarding access for the disabled and less able angler what ever part of the industry they represent.

•To liaise with both local and national associations and bodies with a view to advancing the understanding of the needs of disabled anglers.

•To encourage people who have suffered illness or accidents to get out of the house and back on the bank.

•To represent and support disabled and less able anglers at club, local and national level.

•To help, advise and give support to fisheries.
