Post by Tarks on Mon Feb 08, 2010 4:39 am

Hi all,

ive a simple setup that im trying to expand consisting of one rod n reel basic course setup and a 5m pole.
im purchasing two secondhand carp rods later hopefully.

i dont know what i like fishing best as ive only fished 12 hours in total so far and ive cought 16 fish in total, silver with red fins mostly dunno what they are lol but they love red maggot.

Im able boddied but abcent in mind half the time haha

i live in Measham Near The Pot Kilns lake if any of you have fished there let me know
any local fisherman here to me make your self known i need help and tutoring lol.

yes they were caught at the pot kiln, but on further investigation, ive found them to be Rudd as they are very vibrant red finned and redish tint to the eyes, also the mouth has its bottom lip larger or sticking out further than the top lip.

Various pictures ive seen of rudd make it clearer in my mind that its not a roach but they do share a very simular build to rudd (to a newbie that is anyhoo lol).

The Roach and Rudd are very much alike and can be easily mistaken for each other below are two examples

First the Roach

and here is a Rudd

The Rudd (Scardinius erythrophthalmus)
is often confused with the Roach (Rutilus rutilus), as the two species are similar in appearance. In the rudd, the dorsal fin
is situated further back than in the roach. Another key difference
between the two is that the rudd has a keel on the belly, whereas in
the roach the belly is rounded. The rudd has a bluish green back with silvery-white sides and belly. The dorsal fin and pectoral are greyish with a reddish tint and all the other fins are bright red.
hope this helps

I love pot kiln, in the matches ive fished on there i allways start by using a cheap (4-99) 4m whip mwhich i elasticate through just the top sect with 12 - 14 lacy, and fish to hand with 4lb linine through to a 18 animal b/less hook. i use a fairly heavy short waggler float set about 8 inches deep with maggots or caster on the hook & heavy loose feeding wheat, casters & hemp. i normaly look at a fish every 40secs at least in the warmer weather

the ddac crowd are mostly not a bad sort most of them just go for the fishing, company & banter. If you click on the bold red print in Johns post it will take you to there site. Dont be put off by the lack of fishing related topics on the page that comes up, its one of these sites that you can only get full access by registering as a member
