i tried once with a pole and it was a total farce,
i admire all out there who can master the pole,i can see the advantages but give me a rod and line any day

pole fishing i think is one of the easiest methods with a bit of practice. It can also be the fastest method in a match situation, esp on a mixed lake because you can have different tops set up to catch small 1oz silvers to double figure carp & most fish in between. Within seconds you can change from fishing a pinkie to a fishing a pellet or even a large bit of paste.
all it is practice the same as anything

I would say that 95% of my fishing is on the pole summer or winter. I use a stick float and centerpin reel on the river with a Maver 14ft rod. I have joined another fishing club so a lot of my river fishing will now be on the Dove.
