6lbs 5oz Chub
Gary Knowles caught a very significant fish the other week. Why was it significant? Because it was a 6lb 5oz chub caught from the river Dove, a river where a 5-pounder is still quite a rare specimen and the fish is possibly a record for the river. It's certainly one of the biggest authenticated chub I know about.
Another aspect of its capture was that Gary was fishing for chub, with chub tackle and chub baits - it wasn't caught accidentally whilst he was fishing for barbel. Or from a stillwater when he was fishing for carp.
Did he win a weekly award for it from the angling press? Did he hell; they still haven't cottoned on to the fact that a bigger fish from, say, the Dorset Stour, can be much less meritorious than a smaller one from a river such as the Dove (assuming the awards are in recognition of good angling rather than just good fish).
